C.A. Fredd Jr. Career & Tech Academy has been approved!

This is a tuition free public charter high school coming to Tuscaloosa County, serving students in grades 9 through 12. The school will focus on career and technical education, workforce development, and real world learning experiences.

Thank you to the families, students, and community members who shared their voices in meetings, surveys, and events. Thank you to the Fredd family, our Board, and the Alabama Public Charter School Commission for your support and commitment.

This school reflects the input and needs of the community.

Tuscaloosa County AND Jefferson County did not disappoint!

The voices were loud and clear!

Our community wants and needs this school. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

We heard from nearly 100 participants, both in person and online, sharing stories that spanned generations. From honoring the legacy of C.A. Fredd Jr. to a young man preparing to attend the University of West Alabama to pursue criminal law, each voice reflected a common theme: our community is ready for opportunity.

Families, students, and community members spoke candidly about their lived experiences and the need for a school that connects education to real life careers. Access to meaningful pathways is not just about success. It is about changing outcomes and, in some cases, literally saving lives.

We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who showed up and supported this vision, including the Fredd family, our Board, the Alabama Public Charter School Commission, and most importantly, our community. The room was filled from infants to elders, a true reflection of Tuscaloosa County.

Now, we look ahead with anticipation as we await a decision on Monday, May 4.

No matter the outcome, one thing is clear: this community showed up, and your voices were heard.
