📚⭐ Literacy Night at Skyland Elementary! ⭐📚

What a wonderful evening of learning, laughter, and family fun at Skyland Elementary!

Our third-grade parents had the opportunity to learn more about the Alabama Literacy Act and ways they can support their children as they continue growing as readers.

Families from all grade levels joined the fun by exploring literacy stations, playing literacy games together, and taking home FREE books to enjoy!

Thank you to our families, students, teachers, and staff who helped make Literacy Night such a success. We love seeing our Skyland community come together to build strong readers and a lifelong love of learning!

Today, we wore GREEN to show the importance of coming to school every day and making attendance a priority.

We are on Day 4 of Say Hello Week — Trusted Adult Thursday.
Our students had the opportunity to learn more about their trusted adults by completing the sentence stem:
“If I wasn’t a ________, I would be a ________.”

They also shared an interesting fact about themselves, helping us build connections, strengthen relationships, and create a welcoming school community.

Day 2 & Day 3 of Start With Hello Week at Skyland Elementary.

Our students have been learning what it means to be an upstander—someone who chooses to speak up, include others, and help create a kinder, more welcoming school community.

As part of our learning, students recorded and signed a pledge to be an upstander. Each grade level then added their hand-shaped pledges to our tree branches, creating a beautiful “Tree of Upstanders” that represents the many hands working together to make Skyland a place where everyone feels seen, included, and valued.

We are so proud of our students for learning that small acts of kindness and courage can make a big difference.

Together, we can grow a kinder community—one hand, one hello, and one upstander at a time.

We kicked off Start With Hello Week with Meet & Greet Monday!

Today, students used fun conversation starters during lunch to spark meaningful, enriching conversations with their peers. These conversation starters encouraged students to step outside of their usual circles, get to know one another, and build positive connections.

It was a great way to remind our students that a simple “Hello” can be the beginning of a new friendship or a meaningful connection.

Here’s to a week of kindness, connection, inclusion, and making everyone feel welcome! 🌟

We had a fantastic time with our Skyland families at PTA Skate Night at Super Skate! It was great seeing our All-Stars skating, laughing, and having fun together outside of the classroom. Thank you to our PTA and families for helping make it such a fun and memorable evening!

We loved welcoming our grandparents and special guests to Skyland for Grandparents’ Day Lunch! It was wonderful seeing our All-Stars share smiles, conversations, and special moments with the people they love. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make these days so memorable!

Today, our Skyland All Stars wore GREEN to celebrate Attendance Awareness Month. We’re proud to remind our studentsthat every day at school counts and every day is another opportunity to learn, grow, and shine.

Attendance Fact: Students who attend school regularly are more likely to stay on track academically and build strong habits for success.
