Today is a special day at Northridge Middle School, and we are thrilled to celebrate one of our very own!

Dr. Sonia Drake-Blunt has officially and successfully defended her dissertation on August 4, 2026, earning her doctoral degree. As we begin the 2026–2027 school year, she isn’t just starting a new chapter—she’s starting it with a new title and a new name. From Ms. Sonia Drake-Blunt to Dr. Drake!

Dr. Drake truly embodies what it means to be a Jag. She leads with heart, serves our students with excellence, supports our staff, and makes Northridge Middle School a better place every single day. Her dedication to education and lifelong learning is an inspiration to our entire school community.

Join us on August 4, 2026, from 5:30–7:00 p.m. at The Venue in Tuscaloosa as we celebrate Dr. Jami Rainey! We would love for anyone who has known him, worked with him, learned from him, or been impacted by him to stop by and help us celebrate his retirement.

We can’t wait to see all of our students next week! The first day of school is Monday, August 10, 2026. School doors will open at 7:45 a.m., and no early drop-offs will be permitted. Car riders should use the front car rider lines, where staff members will be outside to welcome students.

Sixth and seventh-grade students will enter through the gym lobby doors. Eighth-grade students will enter through the front lobby doors. All students eating breakfast must enter through the front doors and should arrive no later than 7:55 a.m.
