Traditional bladesmithing and metal art. I've always enjoyed working with steel. I make them to be used.

One day I was working with some steel that was too hard to drill through I thought it might be fun to make a knife. It grew into a passion, first learning how to make the steel hard enough to hold an edge but with enough give not to break. Soon just grinding the blade out wasn't enough, I began learning how to forge the blade using the old time blacksmithing methods. The blacksmithing opened other opportunities to make othe items that are useful and sculptures that capture the eye.

Here's the latest of the work bench. A 12" Mountain Man Longhunter Bushcraft Bowie. The blade was made from a very large vintage Nicholson mill file. The antler base and Blackwood handle is mounted on a bolt through tang with a guard forged from an old rasp. The little knife was made from a file with a matching handle. The duo are carried in a shoulder sheath that also has a flint and steel kit.

Got this one done for a client. He wanted something with a bit taller blade. To accommodate the taller blade profile I used an industrial saw mill blade. This one was heat treated and given a soft back draw for added strength. The antler base and oak burl handle was mounted on a bolt through tang.

Here's a little "Modern Mountain Man Bushcraft Bowie" made from a 1960's vintage K&F mill file. The antler base handle is mounted on a bolt through tang. The sheath carries a matching ferro rod, 'cause who says a Bushcraft knife needs to be boring.

Just got the sheath done for this one. Forged from a billet of 15n20, 1084 and mill file steel in the high/low pattern. Handle is stabilized elk antler.

A little drop point hunter made from a pre 1970 Black Diamond mill file. The handle is Sambar and buckeye burl.

I like building knives with a story, something more than just "he made the knife". This Bowie started out as some old K&F mill files and band saw steel. A Damascus billet was forged up and folded to around 200 layers then the knife was forged to shape. A handle of Buckeye burl was mounted on a bolt through tang.
