es students with the tools to manage, resolve, negotiate, and mediate conflict and to develop intrapersonal and interpersonal skills for living and earning. Business, government, and community agencies value these skills to increase productivity and to maximize a positive workplace climate. The ability to creatively manage conflict is a significant skill set that most employers seek in potential employees. Resolving conflict involves learning to communicate about interpersonal issues with unique and diverse individuals and groups. Conflict management training actively engages the student in self-exploration regarding issues of perception, bigotry, bias, values, beliefs, differences, and culture. Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Consumer Conflict Mediation, Negotiation, and Management, the student will be able to:

Apply general conflict management, negotiation, and mediation strategies to work functions, especially on the supervisory level. Demonstrate understanding of ethics in the practice of conflict management, negotiation, and mediation. Evaluate organizational culture for effective conflict management, negotiation, and mediation to increase productivity, improve performance, and promote a safe work environment free from bias and discrimination. Design and implement effective training in conflict management, negotiation, and mediation. Demonstrate creative problem solving concerning conflict management, negotiation, and mediation issues in the workplace. Demonstrate effective conflict resolution skills involving general and specific workplace issues. The required (3 credit hour) courses for the certificate are as follows:

CSM 559 Techniques of Consumer Counseling

The Graduate School at The University of Alabama requires a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 for work completed at the University to maintain good academic standing. Accordingly, to earn a graduate certificate, students are required to have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0. The time limit will be the same as the time limit for the master's degree, which is six (6) years (18 fall, spring, and summer semesters). Applying Classes toward Master's Degree:

Students may apply all 15 hours of course work from the graduate certificate in Consumer Conflict Negotiation, Mediation, and Management toward the Master of Science degree in Human Environmental Science, General Studies. The course of study may be completed by choosing an additional 9 hours of coursework in the area of Consumer Conflict Negotiation, Mediation, and Management (listed below) in addition to 3 hours of research methods and 3 hours of practicum/Capstone Experience.
