Established in 1970 by a group of citizens dedicated to the arts, the Arts and Humanities Council of Tuscaloosa County, Inc. is the Arts Division of the Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority. The Council serves as the umbrella organization for 40 plus Member Organizations, promotes the arts within the county and West Central Alabama and manages the historic Bama Theatre.

The University of Alabama’s High School Theatre and Dance Festival opens the door for students from Grades 9-12 to the next step in their training. By bringing together our High School Theatre Festival and the High School Dance Day, UA Theatre & Dance is excited to offer a comprehensive platform for students to hone their skills in the performing arts or explore new horizons!
On September 12, 2026, from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, students will have the opportunity to attend transformative workshops led by department faculty and graduate students featuring many performing arts disciplines, including performance in theatre and dance, technical theatre, stage management, and more! Students will also have the chance to explore the newly renovated Bryce Main facility, meet current students, learn more about student organizations and college life at UA, and more!
This year’s workshops will include:
* Prepping the Package: Auditioning for Musical Theatre
* Pen to Paper: An Intro to Playwriting
* Rhythm and Groove: An Intro to Rhythm Tap Dance
* Mind Meets Body: Intro to Yoga
* Find the Groove: Improv and Social Dance
* Qualities of Movement: An Intro to Michael Chekhov
* Grace Embodied: Intro to Ballet Technique
* No Script, No Problem: Improv Movement & Comedy

The Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center is proud to honor the legacy of Dinah Washington, a Tuscaloosa native whose powerful voice and groundbreaking career left a lasting mark on American music.
Leading up to her birthday on August 29, we'll be sharing a new fun fact on our Instagram Story every day. From her rise to fame to the songs that made her a legend, you'll get to know the artist, trailblazer, and icon whose legacy continues to inspire us.
