Materials Research His group utilizes a variety of state-of-the-art analytical microscopes that characterize materials from the atomic to micron-length scales.

The research focus of Professor Thompson’s group is in the connection of phases stability with microstructure and how each regulates material properties, particularly deformation and magnetism. Professor Thompson is keenly interested in transmission electron microscopy and atom probe tomography techniques to study materials from which direct comparisons to theoretical simulations are made.
