It was great to have our first 4-H Homeschool Clubs of the year! 4-H’ers were able to connect with old friends, make new friends, play some games, and learn about some of our most interesting natural resources!

Hello, Homeschool Families!

I believe we have the majority of kids registered for our 4-H Homeschool Club. I am excited to see returning members as well as a lot of new names. I cannot wait to meet new friends and see old ones!

Here are the meeting times for 4-H meetings beginning Wednesday, September 23:

Juniors (9-11 years old) 9:00-10:30. Earliest drop off will be 8:50

Intermediate & Seniors (12 and up) 10:30-12:00noon Latest pick up 12:10

If your child needs any accommodations, please text me ASAP at 205-771-0661.

We will meet in the Courthouse Annex Auditorium behind our old office. 2513 7th Street, but use the entrance in the back off the big parking lot behind the tag office.

Our Livestock Club had an awesome meeting last night to kick off the new club year! Mrs. Laura Martin is our new volunteer leader, and she planned a great lesson on fencing. She brought fencing materials and posts from their farm to give kids some hands-on learning.

This was great exposure for our younger and newer members because these fencing materials are examples of the farm tools they have to identify if they want to compete in the Alabama 4-H Skill-a-thon.

The club also elected new officers! Congratulations to Neal Thomas Miller (President), Aiden Clements (Vice-President), and Caroline Beardsley (Secretary)!

Next month the club will do an introductory lesson on livestock judging, and our November meeting will be a field trip to the Martin’s family farm.

Kids do not have to own livestock animals to participate in this club. Animal owners are certainly welcome, too!

It’s going to be a great club year!

Our Hops & Hobbies Club (formerly known as The Rabbit Club) had our first meeting of the new club year last night, and it was so fun!

Mrs. Jen brought a ton of artificial flowers donated to our club from HER 4-H leader when she was growing up in Wisconsin. The kids used these old materials and new grapevine wreath bases for their first project.

The kids learned how to upcycle recycled materials to create something beautiful! They started their grapevine wreaths and will finish them next month with florals.

Next month we will plan out the projects and hobbies members want to explore. It’s not too late to sign up for this club! Be there next month to add your input into planning out the club year.

We discussed the importance of being open to trying new experiences because we can always learn something. All the kids were proud of their progress, but even happier to see each other!

4-H Friends are the BEST! And our volunteer leaders go above and beyond to invest in our Tuscaloosa County kids!

The application to attend Ignite by 4-H 2027 is now open! 🌟🚀🍀

Hosted by National 4-H Council, Ignite brings together teens from all across the U.S. to Washington D.C. to immerse themselves in hands-on workshops, experiences and activities in their desired program area. 4-H'ers can choose from agriscience, animal science, community accelerators, CWF @ Ignite, STEM or healthy living.

With the addition of public speaking, career and life readiness and presentation workshops, participants will apply what they learn to their own life and take a step toward becoming .

Ignite 2027 will be held March 17-21 and is open to senior level 4-H members (ages 14-18). The deadline to apply closes September 28, 2026. If interested in applying or to learn more, speak to your county 4-H agent and visit www.aces.edu/4h/ignite-by-4-h/
