UA Law Public Interest Institute The Public Interest Institute and the Student Board are committed to promoting Pro Bono and Public I

Created in 2000, the Public Interest Institute of the University of Alabama School of Law (PII) is dedicated to its three-part mission:

1) To support law students at every stage of their development into public interest lawyers through the provision of learning experiences, meaningful volunteer opportunities and career counseling.

2) To expose the Law School community to the need for legal assistance among low-income and under-represented populations

3) To foster a lifelong commitment to pro bono legal service in all law students and the desire and capacity to be leaders in the field

The Public Interest Student Board is an adjunct of the PII. The Student Board helps in planning and executing activities with the PII.

The National Jurist's PreLaw Magazine ranked The University of Alabama School of Law #23 among all U.S. law schools for Public Interest Law.

To determine the rankings, The National Jurist compared employment in public interest law, curricula, and debt and loan repayment options afforded to graduates.
