The Division of environmental and Industrial Programs’ mission is to help make the state of Alabama a safer and healthier place to work. The division is composed of the Director’s Office and four operating sections: (1) Safe State Occupational Safety and Health Program, (2) Safe State Environmental Programs, (4) Safe State Environmental Accreditations, and (4) Training and Conference Activities which includes The University of Alabama OSHA Training Institute – Education Center. Environmental Consultation

Environmental Accreditation

Our Asbestos Operations & Maintenance Training two-day class was a huge success!

This class provides instruction on identification, awareness, handling, and safe maintenance of asbestos-containing materials (ACM) in buildings.

Today's instructor spotlight focuses on Dennis Keplinger!

Dennis has been instructing for us since 2008, and he teaches a variety of courses including Construction Standards, General Industry Standards, Managing Excavation Hazards and more.

Dennis hopes his students know that they can make a difference in the lives of their workers and families.

He suggests that they make a list of things they can work on improving upon returning to the workplace following the completion of his courses.

The exhibit hall was buzzing this week, and the UA SafeState team loved connecting with everyone at the Alabama Governor’s Safety and Health Conference!
Our Consultation, Training, and Environmental program teams were on-site sharing how we help Alabama workplaces stay safe, compliant, and thriving—and handing out plenty of SafeState merch along the way.

We also kept the energy high with our conference-wide Scavenger Hunt! Huge congratulations to all of our prize winners who tracked down clues and took home some great rewards at the close of the event.
