Hello SEMA students and graduates! A colleague of mine at UAH is seeking preservice and inservice math teachers to complete a national survey on beliefs about teaching and learning mathematics. I would be appreciative if you could find 20 minutes to complete the survey. Many thanks! Here's the intro and link.

Dear Educator,

We hope you are well. I am Sarah Roller Dyess, an associate professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at The University of Alabama in Huntsville. My colleagues, Kathy Sun from Santa Clara University and Erica Slate Young from Appalachian State University, and I are working to better understand educators’ beliefs about mathematics teaching and learning.

We are requesting your participation in a brief survey study, which should take approximately 20 minutes to complete.

Your individual privacy will be maintained in all published and written data resulting from the study. Although there may be no direct benefit to you, your participation might improve math teaching for children of all ages. Your participation in this study is voluntary. Data collection is anonymous, so no one (including the researchers) will be able to trace individual responses. If you choose not to participate or to withdraw from the study at any time, there will be no penalty. Your decision whether to participate in this survey will not affect your standing with The University of Alabama in Huntsville, including your grade in any of your current or future courses or future partnerships with The University of Alabama in Huntsville, if applicable.

If you have any questions concerning the study, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I can be reached at (256) 824-5386 or [email protected]. Or if you have any questions about your rights as a subject/participant in this research, or if you feel you have been placed at risk, you can contact the Office of the IRB, at (256) 824-6992 or email the IRB chair Dr. Ann Bianchi at [email protected].

Please click on this link to proceed to the survey: https://scu.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6nAdeeWB31Ejgoe
Note: once you click on the link, you will be asked for your consent to participate in this study.

Thanks for your participation.

Best wishes,
Sarah Roller Dyess, Kathy Sun, and Erica Slate Young

Hello UA Secondary Math Education at The University of Alabama graduates! Please see the request from a doctoral student. I typically do not post these on this page, but NCTM past-president (Trena Wilkerson) has been super for UA SEMA over the years and this is returning the favors. If you have 15 minutes, please consider the survey below.
------
My name is Anna Payne and I am a doctoral candidate in Educational Psychology at Baylor University and a mathematics teacher. I am currently collecting data on math teacher's likelihood of recommending students for subject-specific acceleration (moving to a higher level in mathematics, whether a higher grade level or honors/AP/IB/etc.). I have received Baylor University IRB approval for this study.

In order to participate in this study, you must meet the following criteria:
• be able to read/write in English.
• be at least 18 years of age.
• identify as a math teacher (whether at the elementary level for at least 1 class or as a certified mathematics teacher).
If you would like to participate, please follow this link:
