Concert Choir is off and running! 🎵

Happy first week of rehearsals for our performing choirs…AND 🎂 happy birthday 🥳 to their conductor, Ms. Leah!

The 2026-27 season is underway with the Chamber Choir kickoff today! These wonderful young people will be on stage very soon — catch them with the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra on September 14!

⭐️ MEET THE CONDUCTOR ⭐️
Ms. Leah Keyes Durham is the conductor for all three of our performing choirs! A native of Charleston, SC, she has a Bachelor of Music degree in choral music education from Furman University and a Master of Music degree in choral conducting performance from LSU. She has over 15 years of experience as a teacher and conductor across four states. Ms. Leah also sings with the Taylor Festival Choir, a professional chamber choir based in Charleston, which recently performed for ACDA’s National Conference. Fun facts about Ms. Leah: She did a lot of musical theatre in middle and high school! She also loves crawfish boils and oyster roasts.

Calling all elementary school singers, age 5 and up! This fall, the Alabama Choir School has two new choirs just for you. Discovery and Preparatory Choirs meet on Tuesdays after school for 10 weeks, and the fall semester is complete before Thanksgiving. NO AUDITION is required! Sign up using the link below — rehearsals begin on August 18!

⭐️ MEET THE CONDUCTOR ⭐️
Dr. Julie Bannerman is the conductor for our youngest singers in Discovery and Preparatory Choirs! In addition to her work at ACS, Dr. Julie is currently an Associate Professor of Music Education at the University of Alabama where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in music education. Fun facts about Dr. Julie: She is originally from the “Dairy State” (Wisconsin) and loves ice cream! She also lived in Nicaragua for two years as a United States Peace Corps volunteer.
