The first quarter of the Omnia Chess Club season is officially done, and with it comes the first leaderboard of the year!
Students in Chess Club spend the Fall semester playing one sixteen-game season in which everyone faces each other and Mr. Condra one time. They are then ranked according to their point total, which will be used to seed the Grand Chess Tournament that will take place in the Spring semester, the winner of which will be crowned Chess King or Queen of Omnia.
Points are calculated as follows:
Games played: 1 pt
Victories: 3 pts
Stalemates: 1 pt
Stalemates with Check: 1.5 pts
Stalemates in Check: 0.5 pts
Losses: 0 pts
Right now tiebreakers go to whoever's opponents have the better record thus far. Mr. Condra is still ironing out a few kinks to make sure the points system is fair, and he may make changes before the next leaderboard. Additionally, some students have joined the season late and are starting from behind, but they should catch up on their games soon. Leaderboards will be posted every four weeks until week 12 and then they will be posted weekly to close out the season. We are excited to watch the rest of the season unfold!
