Not long after I first started teaching elementary music, I found podcast, “The Elementary Music Teacher Podcast,” and it's been such a source of inspiration, motivation and help over the last 5 years.

Good morning, teachers? How we doin?

These past two weeks have been an absolute roller coaster. I haven't shown my face much on here because it's hard to smile when I'm not feeling my best. (And, honestly, it feels a bit fake smiling in this picture right now.) But, one thing that's been helping me through my anxiety and frustration is reading.

I’m usually posed up on here with a children’s book from my latest music lesson, but today I’m sharing two books for YOU that have recently taught me plenty of LIFE lessons. While I think ALL adults should be reading these two books, us teachers can gain a ton of insight, wisdom and courage from these extraordinary authors and thinkers & 💡

Happy Winter Break & to all a Good Night!✨

Twas the night before Winter Break... But that's not why I chose this beautiful story! 🌺

Twas Nochebuena is a bilingual book that shares the traditions of many Latinx families on Nochebuena (Christmas Eve) - like the making of tamales, fireworks after midnight mass and parranda, which is a traveling Christmas Carol parade.🎵

At the end of the story, when the families and friends all go home, everyone says "Feliz Navidad!" So, that is the song we sang along to the story today.  (Swipe for the ukulele chords) And, tomorrow we will be doing our own version of a parranda, as I take my classes caroling around the school.🎶

Caroling on the last day before break has been a tradition of mine since I began teaching elementary and is one of the days I look forward to most! 🤩 Not only is it so fun to spread holiday cheer throughout the school, but having something to work towards during the last week before break keeps my musicians busy, motivated and gives them a place to channel their pre-break energy! 💯 This year's caroling will be the first live "performance" in two years!
