Fifty years later, a student's missing wallet is uncovered at Guntown Middle School!
When 65-year-old Eddie Riley played for Nettleton in a junior high basketball game at Guntown back in the 1970s, his wallet came up missing. It was likely taken from the dressing room sometime during the game. Mr. Riley never saw it again, until this week.
During scheduled renovations at Guntown Middle's gymnasium, the wallet was discovered last week when workers were tearing down old cinder block partitions in the boys' restroom. The partition had holes at the top, and the wallet was found by workers at the bottom of the divider.
Superintendent Coke Magee made contact with Mr. Riley, who picked up his wallet on Monday. The few dollars he remembered having inside were gone, but a basketball schedule, lunchroom ticket, and pictures were all still there!
Mr. Riley says he'll eventually pass this wallet down to family, along with the incredible story that goes with it.

Mr. Barabbas Leasy begins his 25th year in education as the new principal at Shannon Middle School. Having most recently served as the principal at Verona, Mr. Leasy is ready to welcome 7th and 8th grade Red Raiders to campus soon.
Joining Mr. Leasy is new Shannon Middle School Assistant Principal Janisha Smith.
Ms. Smith is going into her 7th year in education, which includes time as both an ELA and inclusion teacher.

Principal Casey Dye is the new head Tiger at Saltillo Elementary School, as we begin the 2026-27 school year.
Mr. Dye has been with the Lee County School District for 23 years and previously served seven in Columbus, for a total of 30 years in education.

Ms. Jolie McCarter has been named principal at Saltillo Primary School. Having served most recently as assistant principal at the school, Ms. McCarter is now in her 27th year as an educator.
Joining the Saltillo Primary School family is new assistant principal Kim Lilly. Ms. Lilly comes to the Little Tiger campus with 14 years in education. We welcome her to Saltillo and the Lee County School District.

Guntown Middle School welcomes a new team of administrators for the 2026-27 school year. Mr. Jeremy Reece is the new principal, and Dr. Sara Williams and Mr. Scott Gann are the assistant principals.
Mr. Reece has 29 years in education, Dr. Williams brings 18 years, and Mr. Gann is beginning year 20.
We are excited to have these new Tigers at Guntown Middle! Congratulations to all.
