Mrs. Kindt’s 7th grade math classes at Guntown Middle School are learning about scale drawings, how they are used in the real world, and what occupations use them.

Scale drawings allow us to represent large objects, places, or distances in a smaller and easier-to-understand form. We can see this in building plans, road maps, floor plans, and architectural designs.

In this presentation, the students explored the building plans of the new Spartan Composites building in Saltillo. They talked about occupations, such as plumbers, electricians, and concrete workers. Students talked about why it is important to create accurate drawings and plans.

Mrs. Kindt’s class will continue to explore scale drawings and their use for the future engineers, plumbers, electricians, and architects sitting in her rooms! (Thanks to her husband for supplying the plans for the students to view.)

🌮 Is 9:30am too early to eat tacos? Not if you were at Shannon High this morning! 🇲🇽

The Shannon High Library Club hosted a Mexican Maker Day today in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. Several of our club members are of Hispanic descent, and they wanted to share a little bit of their culture with their fellow students.

Students learned how to make homemade tortillas with help from Mrs. Karina Dunaway, Shannon High’s Spanish teacher. They also demonstrated how to make guacamole—and, of course, there was plenty of delicious food to enjoy!

For dessert, attendees were treated to Mrs. Dunaway’s chocoflan, Mexican candy and a tres leches cake, while sangria and Mexican sodas were served to drink. 🌮🥑🍰🥤

Library Club members were especially excited to share their food and culture with none other than LCSD Superintendent Coke Magee, who stopped by to join in the fun!

Gracias to everyone who helped make our Mexican Maker Day such a fun and delicious celebration of Hispanic culture! ❤️🤍💚

Ms. Chapman’s All-Stars at Saltillo Primary are SUPERHEROES in training this week- they’ve been practicing their new superpower “THE POWER TO CHOOSE!”

The kindergarteners are making smart choices, being positive examples for others, and encouraging others to CHOOSE to do what is right!

Structural engineering in 1st grade? Absolutely!

An easy-to-understand lesson for some Saltillo Primary students came from Cason Smith, an 8th grader at Guntown Middle, when he visited Ms. Sara Beth and Mrs. Chandler's class.

Cason explained to the students about a successful group project that he and other middle school students created. It ended up in a national competition last year!

Cason then worked as the class teacher and showed the younger students how to construct their own tower. Students enjoyed being engineers for a day!

The Cyclone, The Brain Stormer, and Tiger Trail are all great names for roller coasters! Using only construction paper and tape, some Guntown Middle students designed and created marble roller coasters with those names.

Mrs. Smith's 8th grade Computer Science & Engineering class used the engineering design process to come up with coasters that would slow down marbles placed on them and take the longest time to finish the route.
Also, the coaster had to incorporate a ‘wow’ factor (quick drop, spiral track, loop, funnel, etc.). Fun themes were selected for the designs.

Great job, future structural engineers!

Congratulations to Shannon High senior Joslyn Heard on being selected for Toyota’s Fall 2026 Creating Your Future internship program!

Joslyn will spend the first five weeks of this 15-week program at ICC Belden, where she will complete the Manufacturing Skills Basic Certification program. This training includes basic math and metric measurement, OSHA, precision measurement, and other essential manufacturing skills.

Joslyn will then spend 10 weeks at Toyota in Blue Springs, gaining hands-on experience through company orientation and time on the production floor. She will have the opportunity to learn about stamping, body weld, paint, and assembly.

We are so proud of Joslyn and all she has started. We look forward to seeing what she will accomplish now and in the future!

Mrs. Bowen's first grade class at Saltillo Primary School has started learning about the parts of a community and the helpers in it.

To kick off their project-based learning week on Monday, special visitors Ms. Haley and Mrs. Melissa from Community Bank did a great job explaining to students how a bank works. Thank you, Community Bank!
