Never enough time in the day. I'd be remiss if I did not recognize Erik Arndt bringing home the 🥇 from SkillsUSA District 1 in Automotive Service Technology. He will be headed to states at Hershey in April. Erik is only the 2nd student of mine to make it to states since Stephen Grow in 2018.

Erik Arndt shaking the Pennsylvania Automotive Association - Skip Wagner Automotive Competition Top 10 Qualifier list up with a 5th place qualifying exam score for Tunkhannock. 🤞🏻that his combined score with Adam Ely's (109) is enough to qualify in the Top 10 of the state to move on to the hands-on competition in February at the Antique Auto Museum in Hershey.

A little late night diagnostics. This summer I bought a Bobcat that has been sitting since 2018. It has a laundry list of things that need to be addressed. One of the most important things before I put it into use is to make sure it has a functioning cooling system. The temperature gauges would not come up above the N in normal. After verifying temperature sensor, gauge and circuit integrity I pulled the thermostat to find it stuck open.

Two weeks ago one of my students learned the importance of surface preparation and making sure o-rings stay seated. After replacing his stuck open thermostat he couldn't figure out why the coolant was leaking. After talking he admitted he never cleaned the corrosion off the mating surface. We also discovered the o-ring had gotten pinched. Thankfully after cleaning the corrosion up and applying a light coating of RTV where the o-ring got flattened we were able to get the coolant to stop leaking.

Tech Tip Tuesday No.2: Crankshaft Position Variation Relearn
This 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 5.3L had new plugs and wires installed for a P0300. Was at two different dealerships for a total of 3 different visits and the problem could not be fixed. Cylinder 1 and 6 were misfiring the most. Could replicate while parked and driving maintaining 2500-3000 RPM. Relearned the Crankshaft Position Variation with the scan tool. Test drove 20 miles, zero misfires occured. Confirmed fix.
