We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our co-founder, director and teacher, Mrs. Ruth Slocum. She touched countless lives throughout her career, and loved her Sonshine Nursery School family dearly. The light of Jesus shone through her, and her passion for sharing His love was a blessing to all who knew her.
“Ruth Slocum, 74, of Tunkhannock passed away at her home surrounded by her family on May 29th, 2022. She was born in Wilkes-Barre on Dec. 29, 1947, and she was the daughter of the late Marlot Sick, and the late former Elva Jennings. She married Edmund Slocum on June 20, 1970.
Ruth graduated from Tunkhannock High School Class of 1965 and Bloomsburg University Class of 1969 with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She was an elementary teacher for Tunkhannock Area for seven years. She then co-founded and worked at Sonshine Nursery School until the spring of 2020. Her true passion was teaching children the love of Jesus. In addition, Ruth enjoyed motorcycle riding, gardening, walking, and leading Bible studies. She especially loved to be surrounded by her family and cherished each moment with them.
In addition to her husband, Ruth is survived by; a brother Lloyd Sick and wife Carolyn, daughters Amy Mucheck and husband Chad, Sara Ergott and husband Jesse, grandchildren Tyler and Carli Mucheck, and Emma and Ethan Ergott.
Funeral service will be held Friday, June 3rd, at 10:30AM from the Community Bible Church 327 State Route 92 S, Tunkhannock, PA. A viewing will be held at the church Thursday, June 2nd, from 4-6PM. Interment will be at the Sunnyside Cemetery.
