Energy & Oilfield Career Experience – Day 5
What an incredible way to wrap up an outstanding week of the NTIEC Energy & Oilfield Career Experience!
Our final day began at the Susquehanna County Career & Technology Center (SCCTC), where Adam Kava provided students with an engaging, hands-on lesson focused on one of the most important aspects of the energy industry—safety. Adam stressed the importance of proper valve control, understanding weight capacities when using slings, and always knowing the limitations of the equipment being used. He also demonstrated how critical communication is in every facet of the industry by using a fishing pole and water to simulate crane operations, showing students firsthand how teamwork and clear communication are essential to completing a job safely and successfully.
While at SCCTC, we would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Beth Beardslee and the SCCTC IT Department for all of their assistance in getting everything set up and ensuring our technology needs were met. Their support helped make the day's activities run seamlessly.
Students then traveled to the SCCTC CDL Training Facility, where Steve Newhart guided them through the CDL simulator, giving them an exciting opportunity to experience what it's like to operate a commercial vehicle while learning about careers in the transportation industry.
The day concluded with a visit from Claverack Rural Electric Cooperative, where Brian Zeidner and Karen Evangelisti shared information about the many rewarding career opportunities available within the electric utility industry. Students also had the opportunity to experience Claverack's new VR equipment by participating in a virtual pole rescue simulation, providing an exciting and realistic look at the skills required to work safely in the field.
A very special thank you goes to Brandy Golden of Devon Energy for helping facilitate Energy Camp throughout the entire week. Your dedication, leadership, and commitment to educating the next generation of energy professionals helped make this camp an unforgettable experience for every student.
We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Nicki Morgan and her team at the Lackawanna College Tunkhannock Center for graciously serving as our host site throughout the week. Thank you for opening your doors and providing such an outstanding facility for our students, instructors, and industry partners. Your hospitality and support were instrumental in the success of this year's camp.
Finally, we would like to recognize this incredible group of students. Throughout the week, they represented themselves, their families, and their schools with professionalism and pride. They were polite, respectful, kind, ambitious, and eager to learn, asking thoughtful questions and embracing every opportunity to explore careers in the energy industry. Their enthusiasm, positive attitudes, and willingness to step outside their comfort zones made this year's Energy & Oilfield Career Experience truly special. We have no doubt that these young men and women have bright futures ahead, and we can't wait to see where their journeys take them.

Together, you made this an unforgettable week of hands-on learning, career exploration, and experiences that will inspire these students for years to come.
