This class starts 8/28/2023. It is a hybrid class. We will meet once a month in person to complete a Food related lab. All other work will be in Google Classroom.
Who: Grades 7-12 only
Cost: FREE!!!!
Space is LIMITED!!!
In person Lab: 3rd Monday of each month at 3pm

This food chemistry course covers the chemical structure and properties of food constituents, and the chemical changes food undergoes.
The course covers a broad range of subjects related to foods, including basic scientific principles to food systems and practical applications.

The course includes topics such as:

Chemical and physical properties of major and minor food components, including water, carbohydrates, protein, lipids, minerals, vitamins, and enzymes.

Chemical/biochemical reactions of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and other constituents in fresh and processed foods.

Molecular reactions of basic food constituents and their chemical and biochemical changes that influence the texture, color, flavor, odor, stability, and nutritional quality of food.

Chemical composition of important foods, including fruit, vegetables, meat/fish, bread, and milk.

A consumer math course is a comprehensive course that covers topics related to personal finance, budgeting, taxes, banking, and investments. The goal of the course is to provide students with practical skills and knowledge that can be applied to everyday life.
Consumer math courses teach students everyday math skills such as balancing a checkbook, creating a budget, buying a car or home, personal record-keeping, and paying taxes. The course also teaches students how to compare and take advantage of sale prices at a retail store.
Consumer math courses are designed to fulfill general math credit for high school students.
