Sensei (instructor) Trance from NY began his martial arts training at age 12. After watching Brue Lee as Kato in the Green Hornet television series, he knew he wanted to learn whatever it was that Bruce Lee was doing, how he was moving and protecting himself and others as he defeated the bad guys. He did not know what the style was called that Bruce Lee did, so he ended up taking judo thinking it
was the same as Mr. It was not. Never the less Sensei Trance stuck with it for the next five years. He later became an active member of his high school judo team and ended up qualifying as an alternate for a national competition in Colorado. After graduation from high school in ’77, Sensei Trance eagerly searched for a school that taught karate. After sitting in and observing classes at several schools, he ended up studying Shotokan karate at Miyazaki Karate School in NY. One aspect of the school which drew Sensei Trance in was the fact that judo was part of the curriculum. For the next seven years Sensei Trance would train 4-6 days a week. He started working part time at the school as an assistant instructor while still a brown belt then soon began working full time as an instructor, program manager and team coach. In 1984 Sensei Trance earned his Shodan (1st degree black belt). He now holds a 4th degree black belt or yondan and devotes his time to teaching others the beautiful art of traditional Shotokan Karate – Do. With 45 years of experience in the martial arts (38 years of teaching) Sensei Trance feels he is more than qualified to help others reach personal and physical goals through karate. Some of his other enjoyments include spending time with his wife Angela, and their two dogs, going to church, reading the bible, playing piano and spending time with the deaf community to improve his sign language skills. Sensei Trance has two children his daughter Jessica 29 and son Spiro 22.
