β οΈ Why This Matters for Zomi Families
Zomi interpreters are hard to find outside Tulsa, Indianapolis, Louisville
Interpreters cost $50β$150/hour
Small mistakes in translation can cause delays or denials
π Real-Life Scenarios
β A Zomi father brings his 17-year-old son β rejected (must be 18+), interview delayed 4 months
β A Zomi asylum seekerβs testimony is mistranslated β credibility harmed, case denied
β A family in Texas cannot find a Zomi interpreter β reschedules, faces 6-month delay
π‘ Zomi Research Institute Recommendations
βοΈ Arrange early β Donβt wait until the last week
βοΈ Verify interpreter β Must be 18+, fluent, impartial, valid ID
βοΈ Bring Form G-1256 β Sign it at the interview, not before
βοΈ Ask for help β Churches, nonprofits, refugee groups may assist
βοΈ Reschedule if needed β Better to delay than risk denial
π Bottom Line:
From Sept 28, 2025, YOU must bring your own interpreter for USCIS interviews.
Plan ahead. Protect your case. Ask your community for support.
