There have been nearly 5,000 filed in Tulsa County since March 15, with more than 2,200 granted, according to Open Justice Oklahoma's court tracker. That number is expected to increase when the latest federal eviction moratorium expires.

In Oklahoma, 15,182 evictions have been filed since March, according to the eviction tracker at Open Justice Oklahoma — 6,446 have been granted. About 27% of Oklahoma respondents of a Household Pulse Survey from the U.S. Census Bureau say they live in a household where eviction or foreclosure is likely.

Our Juvenile Justice system is failing youth of color. Today’s youth are committing fewer crimes and fewer youth are being arrested, but there are still differences in how they are treated based on their race and where they live.

The justice system will continue to be unfair to people of color unless lawmakers take deliberate steps to fix it. Closing the gap in these disparities for youth is necessary for long-term justice reform in our state.

Oklahoma still leads the nation in rates of childhood trauma, and justice-involved youth are even more likely to have experienced trauma that requires additional service needs and comprehensive approaches to improve long-term outcomes.

Oklahoma should take advantage of declining youth incarceration to reinvest in services — such as therapy, substance use treatment, education, and family supports — for justice-involved youth.
