Lunch at ACS isn't just lunch.

It's a kindergartener owning the job of “table sweeper” or a 4th-grader pouring water for the table. It's older students and younger students, side by side, at the same table. Not because we assigned it, but because we believe they need each other.

We do this on purpose. Every job from sweeping to pouring and wiping down tables is a small act of service. And small acts of service, practiced daily, form character in a way a lecture on virtue never could. Add table manners, conversation across ages, and the simple discipline of caring for a shared space and lunch becomes something more than a break in the school day. It becomes part of the curriculum.

It's not decoration. It's formation.

We teach Latin because it's the root of over 60% of the English language. Learning it shapes how our students read, write, and think. We teach it because it prepares minds for medicine, law, and the sciences, where precision of language still matters. And we teach it because some of the truest, most beautiful words ever written in history and in Scripture were written in it first. We want our students to read them as they are, not just as they've been translated.

So when you watch this video, you're not just hearing a performance. You're hearing formation happening in real time.

Ask an ACS Teacher: Why do you love being a teacher at ACS?

Mrs. Maust holds a BA in Psychology from Oral Roberts University and brings 13 years of homeschooling experience with her own children. She founded and operated a Christian cottage school, teaching grades kindergarten through fourth grade. Her classroom experience also includes teaching kindergarten, second, and third grade. Mrs. Maust and her husband Jon have four children, ages 14-22, with two currently in college and two at home.

Are you looking for practical tools to help shape the hearts and minds of your kids? Join us for a four-week class built around key ideas from Keith McCurdy’s new book, Raising Sturdy Kids. Each week will include table discussion and practical applications from our parenting conference and Keith’s book. Our goal is to encourage and equip you as you lead your family.

The class will be led by Pastor Graeme, Director of Pastoral Care and Chris Breiland, Head of School at Asbury Classical.

So...why classical education?

Because we believe education is about more than getting good grades or preparing for a career.

We believe God has more for each of our students—a life lived in Christ, for the sake of the world.

Classical education gives us a way to help students grow toward that life. They learn the building blocks of knowledge through grammar, how to think and reason through logic, and how to communicate what they believe through rhetoric.

But it's not just about what they learn. We want them to learn to recognize and love what is good, true, and beautiful.

And we don't believe the work of forming our kids belongs to the school alone. Home, school, and church all have an important part to play. We're grateful to partner with families and the church as we help our students grow in wisdom, faith, and character.

At the end of the day, we're not just asking, "What did they learn today?" We're asking, "Who are they becoming?"

Kindergarten put their thinking skills to work during a hands-on math lesson. Working in pairs, they sorted buttons in all kinds of ways—by color, size, number of holes, and more.

They started with the real, 3D buttons and then took those same ideas into 2D, sorting pictures.

It's a simple activity, but there’s a lot of thinking happening: noticing, comparing, classifying, explaining, and working together.

A bigger library means even more books to discover!

Our students were thrilled to explore our newly expanded library and we're just as excited to see where their curiosity takes them.

With shelves full of great books and classical literature, our hope is that students will not only become strong readers, but develop a lifelong love for stories.

There’s something special about watching a child find a book they can’t wait to read.
