High school students! Join us for First Nations Day at OSU Up Close on Wednesday, Sept. 30, in partnership with Be An OSU Cowboy! Come and experience firsthand the community that helps develop more Native American college graduates than any other school in the country!

As a land-grant university, Oklahoma State University is committed to tribal sovereignty and to serving the sovereign tribal nations of Oklahoma and their citizens. The Native American culture and community that encompasses Oklahoma State University is vital to student success.

Students will have the opportunity to tour campus and hear from the OSU Native American Student Association, CSN leadership, and campus partners. We invite students to join us for a catered lunch as well. Make sure to sign up soon, and we will see you there!

Like many others, I’m feeling sorrow for the loss of former Principal Chief A.D. Ellis tonight. But I also am happy to have known him and to have the memories we all share of the lasting impact he’s had on the Muscogee Nation, his family, and his friends and loved ones. I won’t have to look hard to find him and think of him. Whenever I see tribal transit buses picking up citizens, I’ll think of Chief Ellis. When I drive by the Bob Arrington Rodeo Arena, I’ll remember it was Chief Ellis who named it to honor a wonderful man that didn’t get much praise. And when I think about my oath to the Nation’s Constitution, I’ll think of Chief Ellis, who went through some hard times in office to stand for his belief in the seriousness of that same oath. I have plenty to remind me, and to think of him, and smile. Journey well, Chief. MVTO for everything you did, all you served, and what you stood for. We will see you again!

Parents, on Thursday, Indian Education will host a Student Summit so please make sure your child signs up with their high school to attend. It's a great way to kick off the new school year to hear of the opportunities Indian Ed has to offer students and to hear Emcee One, the DJ for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Students will visit with College & Career Programs, Tribal Scholarship Programs and organizations that have wonderful opportunities students can be a part of. Call our office if you need more information.
