What a Day of Caring!

A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered with YWCA Tulsa today for Tulsa Area United Way’s Day of Caring!

Our volunteers spent the morning visiting refugee families in their homes, delivering welcome packages and most importantly, sharing conversation and a warm Tulsa welcome.

Thank you to every volunteer who showed up with open hearts and helped remind our newest neighbors that they are welcomed, valued and part of this community.

This is what caring looks like.

Housing instability doesn’t just affect where a child sleeps. It can affect whether they make it to school at all.

A new national story from The 74 highlights Tulsa’s eviction crisis and the work happening right here in East Tulsa to help families before a housing emergency disrupts a child’s education.

YWCA Tulsa attorney Emily Turner is part of the team at East Central Middle School connecting families with legal help and critical resources when they need them most.

Because keeping families stable can help keep kids in the classroom.

Tulsa is one of several cities trying to combat the chronic absenteeism and poor grades of students facing eviction.

"We have clients and team members who said that they are feeling like prisoners," YWCA Tulsa CEO Julie Davis said. "Even though they have documentation and are here legally, they’re afraid of being picked up, being put into detention, and being separated from their family."

Dozens of Ukrainian truck drivers have been arrested in Oklahoma, according to advocates who are trying to secure their release from ICE detention.

Today marks 25 years since the tragedy of September 11. As we reflect on that moment, we remember not just the heartbreak, but the profound heroism of so many in New York, Shanksville, PA and Washington, DC that defined that day and the weeks that followed. We remember the firefighters, paramedics, police officers, and everyday people who selflessly put their lives on the line for others. Their bravery showed us the absolute best of humanity, that our light would not be dimmed, and that our love and compassion for strangers is our greatest strength.

Twenty-five years later, that spirit of courage inspires us to continue our work to ensure peace, justice, freedom and dignity are realities for all. 🧡 #911
