Why give to OU Culinary Medicine this ?
Did you know? The OU School of Community Medicine's PA and MD Programs were among the first in the nation to require culinary medicine for graduation.
The OU Culinary Medicine Program has trained more than 500 residents, medical and physician assistant students across 8 cohorts as part of the OU School of Community Medicine’s commitment to improving the health of communities. Because of the government shut-down, SNAP recipients will lose their benefits beginning November 1st. To bridge the gap, we’d like your help in sending healthy food to the OU Food First Pharmacy. The OU Food First Pharmacy is a "food is medicine" program of the OU Family Medicine Clinic that provides uninsured patients living with chronic diseases and food insecurity with fresh produce and other healthy groceries that are essential for managing their health conditions. When patients attend their medical appointment, they are offered free access to these nutritious foods, along with nutrition education from their health care provider. About 80% of patients accessing the clinic report food insecurity, and these “nutrition prescriptions” help to directly address patient barriers to healthy living. About 40 patients access the program each week, so we are hoping to boost the food pharmacy inventory for the next 3 months. Because patients are living with diet-related health conditions, we are seeking donations for foods that specifically benefit health, and this time we are asking for purchases or donations toward this amazon gift list/registry. These foods help patients eat healthfully during this challenging time. Your purchase through the Amazon link will be delivered directly to the OU Food First Pharmacy!
