On this day in 1924, Bishop Francis Kelley celebrated his first Mass in Tulsa - a Mass marking the Silver Anniversary of Holy Family Parish.

Bishop Kelley was the second bishop of this part of the world. He was the shepherd of the Diocese of Oklahoma which encompassed the whole state.

He has the distinction of having two high schools named after him: Bishop Kelley High School in Tulsa and Bishop Kelley Catholic School in Lapeer, Michigan.

Bishop Kelley served as the president of the Catholic Extension Society, something he had in common with Bishop Edward Slattery, the third bishop of Tulsa.
