In celebration of International Dot Day, which was yesterday, Rosa Parks students are lending their creativity to a mural which media specialist Stacey Sole will assemble in the coming days.

Today, Sole read the book "The Dot," a famous children's book written and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds., to students in kindergarten and fifth grade, and then asked the students to create their own "dot" art work using templates she provided in the library.

Students were asked to color in a big dot using either green or blue markers, and no other colors. Their work along with work from other classes throughout this week will be used for the planned mural.

International Dot Day is a global celebration of creativity, courage, and collaboration observed every year on September 15. The book, "The Dot," follows a doubting student, who believes she cannot draw. Her art teacher encourages her to just "make a mark and see where it takes you". The story takes the young student on a journey of self-discovery and confidence.

Sole hopes the students will be encouraged to make their own marks at Rosa Parks Elementary.

Dear Union Parents/Guardians & Community Patrons - How confident are you in our local school system? It's a simple question -- but the answer matters now more than ever.

Union Public Schools is participating in the AASA National Research Initiative, a nationwide study benchmarking public confidence in K-12 education. We want to hear from parents, guardians and community members like you.

The survey takes about 5 to 8 minutes, is completely anonymous and helps us understand what's working, what our community values most and what our students most need to equip them for the future.

TAKE THE THOUGHT EXCHANGE SURVEY: https://tejoin.com/participate/990197822

Participation will be open until Sept. 15 at 11 p.m.

Please share with your neighbors! Thank you for being part of this important conversation — the more voices we hear from, the stronger our school district's story will be.

YAY!!! We made it through our first day of school at Rosa Parks. Thank you to BattleCreek Church for volunteering to help students during arrival this morning. It was a hot day, but it was an amazing start to an even more fantastic year ahead.
Can't wait to see you tomorrow.

¡BIEN!!
