A sea lion named Ronan has stunned scientists by demonstrating an exceptional ability to keep a musical beat. In controlled studies, she accurately bobbed her head in sync with various rhythms, including those she had never heard before, matching tempos like 112, 120, and 128 beats per minute. What makes this extraordinary is that Ronan maintained a timing precision within milliseconds of the beat—often outperforming human participants in consistency and accuracy. Unlike birds known for mimicking sounds, sea lions aren’t natural vocal learners, which challenges the belief that vocal learning is required for rhythm perception. Ronan’s ability to adapt to new tempos and stay in time suggests true sensorimotor synchronization, not just imitation. This breakthrough reveals that the capacity for rhythmic movement may be more widespread in the animal kingdom than previously thought.

The gravestone of Soviet-German composer Alfred Schnittke (1934-1998).
It’s a musical staff with a semibreve (the center bar) indicating a rest or pause in the music. The fermata (the half circle + dot at the top) indicates to hold the note (in this case the rest) as long as desired. The note should then be performed fortississimo (the three f’s at the bottom), meaning it should be performed extremely loudly/strongly.
So it’s essentially an extremely loud/strong silence (rest) to be held as long as desired.

The L. Bösendorfer Klavierfabrik GmbH Introduces Mirror-Image Imperial 290 for Left-Handed Pianists!✨️
Vienna – Bösendorfer has unveiled the Imperial 290 Lefty, a mirror-image grand piano with 8 full octaves and 97 keys. While left-handed pianos have been built before, this marks the first time Bösendorfer is adding one to its lineup.
With bass and treble reversed, left-handed players can finally perform melodies with their dominant hand. Critics warn, however, that reading sheet music backward might take some practice.
We believe music should be for everyone—now, even for left-handed pianists in a whole new way.
