Tulsa Girls Art School Tulsa Girls Art School is a non-profit providing after-school art and youth development support to at-promise girls. We are happy to answer them!

Our school is located in historic Kendall Whittier and serves 75+ amazing girls each year — all at no cost to the girls or their families. In 2007, Mona Pittenger and Matt Moffett co-founded the Tulsa Girls Art School. Today, Tulsa Girls Art School continues to develop and evolve into one of the most unique art organizations in Tulsa. Each year Tulsa Girls Art School partners with two elementary school in the Tulsa Public Schools district, focusing on those located in the urban areas of Tulsa, and in close proximity to downtown. We select 12 girls from the third grade to form the "Beginners" class. Each girl is interviewed and recommended by their art teacher, homeroom teacher, and principal of her school. After completing one year in the program, the girls are invited to continue their involvement by joining the "Intermediate," and eventually the "Advanced" class, in which they may participate until graduation from high school. Tulsa Girls Art School aims to develop its students' understanding and appreciation of art and the life of an artist. By cultivating strong leadership skills and promoting responsible financial management, the girls are encouraged to see themselves as both artists and life-long participants in the arts community. The program is completely funded through donations, which provides our students—free of charge—with transportation to and from class, in addition to all the supplies needed to create works of art in a multitude of different mediums. Tulsa Girls Art School holds our Spring Show in April, where we transform our art studio into a gallery. The event is open to the public, and guests are able to meet the young artists themselves, and purchase their one-of-a-kind masterpieces! 50% of the proceeds from the sale of each girl's work is placed into a savings account, monitored by Tulsa Girls Art School. Beyond learning to responsibly manage their personal finances, the savings allow the girls to purchase art supplies, not provided by the school, to build their own personal collection of tools. The funds can also be used to pay for museum and gallery admittance, to cover entry fees for any art contests they wish to enter, or, when the time comes, to help sponsor the costs associated with college applications and ACT/SAT admissions tests. If you have any other questions about the program, please feel free to ask!

This week we had the amazing curator, Dr. Kate Green, come and talk to our middles and advanced students about the life and work of Georgia O'Keeffe. This fall, we are taking inspiration from O'Keeffe's work to create one of a kind paintings for Art Party on November 7th. Kate put together a wonderful presentation capturing all of the empowering and fun facts about Georgia's life and it was amazing to share with the girls about how much of a trailblazer she was! After, we practiced watercolor painting with our newfound skills. The paintings turned out great!

Thank you so much@kateggreen for sharing your talent and knowledge with our students!

Fall session is well under way and we are so happy to have the studio buzzing with energy once again. This year, we increased student capacity from 75 to 90 girls and we have many new students! The last two weeks have been focused on playing games, getting to know each other, and introducing things around the studio- like paint sink clean up! We’ve been eating a lot of after school snacks too. 🙂🍎🥯🎨 Stay tuned to see what we get up to this fall!

It’s been just over one year since Amber Litwack took the helm as executive director of Tulsa Girls Art School, a nonprofit that inspires young women between third and 12th grade through art education 🎨

Tulsans can see the students’ work for themselves during a special showing taking place at the Tulsa Artist Fellowship Archer Studios Building (205 E. Archer St.) during the First Friday Art Crawls on Aug. 7 and Sept. 4.

Litwack is no stranger to the Tulsa arts community, having previously served as executive director at Tulsa Foundation for Architecture in addition to her work with the Any Given Child-Tulsa program and the former ahha Tulsa. Litwack holds a B.F.A in studio art, a B.A. in art history and an M.A. in Art Education from The University of Tulsa.

In 2015, Litwack completed a Project Zero fellowship at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Then in 2017, she completed a Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Oklahoma State University, where her primary research focus was arts education.

She took some time between summer sessions to tell TulsaPeople more about Tulsa Girls Art School, her first year in the role and what is on the horizon for the organization ✨

Last week, we wrapped up our summer programming with our high school students, and what an incredible way to end the season! We were honored to welcome to the studio, where she spent the week introducing our girls to the art of working with clay.

Her calm, patient, and encouraging presence created such a welcoming environment for creativity to flourish. Throughout the week, our students explored new techniques, challenged themselves, and created beautiful ceramic pieces.

Thank you again to for helping us make 2026 summer camps so much fun!!
