LaSierra High PE

LaSierra High PE Documentary film project: LaSierra High PE Program in Carmichael, CA from 1957-1983.

The LaSierra High PE Program was established under the direction of Coach Stan LeProtti. LaSierra's PE Program was world famous and was copied by 4,000 schools across America plus other schools globally. LaSierra PE was on the cover of Look Magazine, on The Tonight Show, and featured in Reader's Digest during the early 1960s. LeProtti eventually left LaSierra to become one of the top physical educators in the President's Council on Physical Fitness and was named one of America's Top Twelve Physical Fitness Leaders in 1967. LeProtti spent the rest of his life teaching the methods of LaSierra's PE program to fitness clinics around the country, law enforcement groups, and to the military. The page is administered by Ron Jones of The Lean Berets and Doug Orchard of Doug Orchard Films. Primary historical research being conducted by Ron Jones and Shane Hylton from The Lean Berets.

The origins of LaSierra’s PE program came from Coach Stan LeProtti’s mentor Frank Griffin who had his own legendary PE program. Like LaSierra, Griffin’s Sequoia High School in Redwood City, CA was also nationally known and attracted many visitors from around the country. Here’s a nice write up by award-winning journalist Jim Clifford.

Obesity, much less morbid obesity, wasn’t a problem at Sequoia High School in the 1950s, thanks to the “atomic loop,” a demanding physical exercise course that pushed male students to

South High School in Bakersfield, CA was a LaSierra High PE “Project School” under Coach Stan LeProtti. SHS Boys PE was directed by George Van Pelt, and their Girls PE was directed by Helen Felton. South High PE (Boys) averaged 500 minutes of PE per 10 days. The mandated requirement in this era was 400 minutes per 10 days, so SHS “exceeded” the minimum required PE time. *Photo circa 1966.

The classical Physical Education philosophy along with LaSierra PE and Coach Stan LeProtti were highlighted in this recent Fox News documentary by Tucker Carlson. "The End of Men" exposes the current problems developing in our young men with the absence of proper PE along with a problem of decreasing testosterone levels and male infertility.

Speaking directly to the PE portion of the documentary, the producers did a good job editing my interview and teaching sections. They flew into Tulsa and spent five hours filming me and some of my PE students. I hope the documentary helps to highlight the importance of REAL PE and how it can help develop our young boys into good citizens and strong men.

I got a tremendous note from Karl up in Whitehorse Yukon territory of Canada thanking us for the LaSierra Strength Endurance Exercise Routine videos and for making our PE documentary film "The Motivation Factor." His daughter loves to exercise "with the boys" every week now! And of course, she's getting stronger by the day.

Our youth and health are the future. Stay the course for REAL PE!
