There is nothing quite like the first day of school. The nervous excitement. The new shoes. The deep breath before walking through the doors into a fresh year.

This fall, 850 students across the Diocese of Tulsa and Eastern Oklahoma felt those first-day butterflies at a Catholic school, supported by more than $1.95 million in scholarships from GO contributors. Last year that number was 688. This year it is 850 and growing.

The first weeks are always the best ones. Lockers claimed, routines forming, classrooms full of students who belong exactly where they are.

For many of those students, this year is possible because someone chose to redirect their Oklahoma state taxes to GO. A quiet decision months ago became a full classroom this fall.

GO for Catholic Schools serves the whole Diocese of Tulsa and Eastern Oklahoma, and that reach extends well beyond Tulsa. In Muskogee, Saint Joseph Catholic School has served families with faith and care for generations.

As a new school year begins, Bishop David Konderla put it plainly: "There's always the constant need to make Catholic education more accessible for more children."

That is the purpose of the Bishop's Fund. Within GO, it directs contributions to students with the greatest financial need and to schools supporting inclusion programs for children with special needs. These are families who chose Catholic education for the faith, the community, and the values it carries.
