🦅 DAY 2: The Salk Eagles were cleared for takeoff! 🚀

What happens when you mix science, coding, robotics, engineering, and a whole lot of curiosity? You get one EPIC day at STARBASE Tulsa! 🌟

Our 5th-grade cadets were busy building, coding, designing, experimenting, testing, and solving challenges—just like real STEAM professionals do! And yes… there was plenty of fun along the way! 😎

🧪🔥❄️ Double Bubble Trouble!
Things got HOT… and then they got COLD! 🥶 Students investigated chemical reactions that release heat and reactions that absorb heat. Science isn't just something you read about—it’s something you can SEE, FEEL, and experience!

💻🧩 3D CAD Design
Dream it. Design it. Build it! Students stepped into the world of 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and learned how engineers use technology to turn ideas into real designs.

🤖💡 Code + Sphero BOLT
Can you make a robot do what YOU want it to do? 🤔 Our cadets wrote code, tested their programs, found mistakes, troubleshot their code, and tried again until their Sphero BOLT robots brought their ideas to life!

🚛🏗️ Robotics Challenge: BUILD A DUMP TRUCK!
Ready… SET… BUILD! Students became engineers for the day, designing and creating their own robotic dump trucks. They used creativity, teamwork, engineering, and problem-solving to tackle the challenge.

And the best part? They discovered something important:

✨ Engineers don't always get it right the first time. They test, troubleshoot, redesign, and try again!

STARBASE Tulsa welcomed Heritage Trails’ 5th-grade cadets, and they were ready to ASK, IMAGINE, PLAN, CREATE, TEST & IMPROVE! 🧠🛠️

🛠️ Engineering Design Process — Cadets tackled challenges, tested ideas, and learned that sometimes you have to try, tweak, and try again!

✈️ Bernoulli’s Principle — How does an airplane fly? Cadets explored how moving air and pressure create lift!

📏 Volume, Density & Measurement — Measuring, calculating, comparing, and making predictions like real scientists! 🔬

🎯 5th Grade STEAM in action: Big questions, hands-on challenges, creative thinking, and plenty of “WHOA…THAT WORKED!” moments! 🎉

Our 5th-grade pilots took on the STARBASE Tulsa flight simulators—and let’s just say… there was some figuring it out! 😂

Take a look at these fun moments as they learned to take off, navigate, turn, and keep that plane in the air! 🛫🎮

Real flying takes practice… but these moments are pretty entertaining! 😆

Day 3 with the Afton Eagles was full of metric system fun! Students created their rockets and learned about mass, trajectory, nanotechnology and active agents!
🚀 **Straw Rockets** - Students learned about propulsion, force, and mass while launching their mini rockets and recording their trajectory.
✨ **Pop Goes The Fizz** - Students calculated the projectile height of their nerf darts and measured the fuel for every successful launch.
🧬🧪**Nanotechnology and Happy Atoms** - Cadets explored nanotechnology, learned about atomic structure, built compounds and elements, and experimented with purposeful polymers.
The day was filled with curiosity, creativity, and calculation.

STARBASE Tulsa had the pleasure of hosting Salk Elementary during the first week of September and we loved having their dynamic minds tackle every question we gave them:
💧 **Liquid Volume Experiments** – Students measured, compared, and learned how fluids fill different spaces and the differences between the standard and metric system.
🌬️ **Bernoulli’s Principle** – Student-led demonstrations showed how air pressure and flow can lift objects and power designs — physics in action!
⚖️ **Density Exploration** – Students tested how different mystery liquids either floated or sank, discovering how salinity concentrations can be pretty cool and fun.
🥚**Engineering Design Process** - Students applied their introduction into EDP by making emergency landing pods for their Eggbert or Eggbertas.
