On August 6, we are proud to celebrate National Paralegal Day and recognize the professionals whose work has become indispensable to the modern legal industry.

The paralegal profession expanded significantly during the second half of the twentieth century as law firms and legal departments increasingly relied on skilled legal professionals to help manage complex matters, improve efficiency, and support the delivery of high-quality legal services. Over time, the role developed into a distinct and valued career path requiring substantive knowledge, sound judgment, organization, adaptability, and strong project-management skills.

As paralegals advance in their careers, many take on broader responsibilities leading projects, managing teams, developing talent, and improving legal-service delivery. The International Practice Management Association supports that progression by providing education, professional development, networking, and leadership resources to paralegals growing into management roles, as well as to the managers responsible for building, developing, and leading effective legal teams.

In celebration of National Paralegal Day, IPMA, together with AAfPE, American Bar Association, IAALS, NALA, and National Federation of Paralegal Associations, Inc. (NFPA), will host programs highlighting the profession, its continued evolution, and the contributions of paralegals and allied legal professionals.
