Union Bands is a fine arts entity of the Union Public Schools, an Independent School District located in southeast Tulsa, Oklahoma. This organization has a proud tradition of excellent students, teachers, parents, and directors, and is supported by one of the most progressive administrative teams in the country. During the past three decades, Union Bands have provided unparalleled opportunities, experiences, and achievements for its young musicians and performers. As a result, the performing groups within the program have produced numerous state, regional, & national championships.

Ms. Cecily Yoakam is excited to come home to Union as an assistant band director.

Ms. Yoakam graduated from the University of North Texas where she studied oboe with James Ryon and completed her student teaching practicum under Mrs. Kathy Johnson in Argyle ISD.

Upon her graduation, Ms. Yoakam taught at Barton Middle School in Buda, TX, teaching primarily beginner woodwinds. She then served as the Advocacy and Educational Resources Coordinator at Music for All, Inc. in Indianapolis. Ms. Yoakam then spent five years as an assistant band director at Liberty High School in Frisco, TX. She is actively involved with Music for All, where you’ll find her greeting marching bands in parking lots across the country, and serving as Coordinator for the SWAG Team at the Bands of America Summer Camp in Muncie, IN.

Ms. Yoakam was a drum major for the Union Renegade Regiment, drum major for the North Texas Green Brigade Marching Band, and conductor for the Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps. She is extremely excited to return to the Regiment family!

As we continue sending best wishes to Miss French in her retirement, and to Miss Mayes on her new teaching position in Texas, we also celebrate the addition of two new team members to our full-time Union Bands faculty!

Students, parents, & Union community, please help us warmly welcome Mrs. Laura Barnes and Mrs. Molly Ayers to the team!

• Mrs. Barnes joins us from Las Vegas, but has plenty of previous experience in Oklahoma. (See Bio: www.UnionBands.com/Barnes).

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

Due to the forecast for bitterly cold temperatures and winds, the Renegade Regiment 2019 Nationals Send-Off Performance scheduled for Monday, November 11 at 8:30pm has been postponed until after the group returns from Indianapolis. The students look forward to presenting an encore performance of 'The Orchestra's Guide to the Young Person' at a date & time to be announces as soon as possible, pending weather and availability of facilities. We appreciate the enthusiastic support for the Renegade Regiment from friends, family members, and patrons not only this competitive season, but year after year.
