After a great deal of thought, I've decided to leave FB and all Meta-owned social media platforms at 6 pm CT on January 18th, 2024 because one has to pay the Meta-guardians to receive engagement. Although I am removing myself from these platforms, Meta gives one a thirty-day "cooling-off" period before completely deleting any account. If I log back in after the 18th, that stops the deletion process, so don't expect me to log back in after 6 pm CT on January 18th, 2024.

What's sad is that only about ten of you will see this. FB decided that, after posting my Advent Calendar of Cookbooks in December, my content on both my personal and business pages went against their community guidelines. That decision meant only one FB person daily engaged with The Simmering Chef in all of December. Before December, it was 10 per post. Sure, that's not a lot, and if I were willing to pay $400 for 1000 people to "see" my post, I'd get more engagement. I am not willing to do that.

My goal is to always keep TSC free. I'm not interested in spending time on platforms and social media sites that don't support that goal.

I will miss each of you, seeing your photos, and hearing about your lives. Feel free to DM me if you'd like to stay connected in more old-fashioned ways such as the phone, email, texts, or, OMG!, letters.

Sending each of you a lamp, a ladder, or a boat, whatever you need to help you thrive.

Janet

A Peaceful Feast For One 12/24/2024

It's the last day of Advent and the last door of The Advent Calendar of Cookbooks opens. Behind this final door is my favorite cookbook of all time, Nigel Slater's THE CHRISTMAS CHRONICLES. Each page is brushed with laughter, curiosity, love, peace, hope, and the occasional struggle to ensure that making it through the season is completely possible. , , , ,

Your Goose is Cooked but Your Duck Is Confited 12/23/2024

Day 23 of The Advent Calendar of Cookbooks. We're opening the next to the last door, and what's behind it but some duck confit. This is in honor of all the great food my friend Jean-Claude Cavalera made me while I lived in Colorado. His duck confit was the best! , , , , , , ,
