This weekend, we had the incredible honor of welcoming Lessie Benningfield Randle, lovingly known as "Mother Randle," to Greenwood Rising for her very first visit.

At 111 years old, Mother Randle is the last known living survivor of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. Having the opportunity to welcome her into a space dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of Historic Greenwood was a profoundly moving moment for our team.

There are simply not enough words to express what her visit meant to us. Every story we tell, every exhibit we preserve, and every conversation we facilitate is rooted in honoring survivors like Mother Randle. Her presence reminded us why this work matters.

Five years after Greenwood Rising opened its doors, seeing Mother Randle experience the History Center in her lifetime represents more than a milestone—it is a testament to remembrance, resilience, and hope.

Thank you, Mother Randle, for your strength, your legacy, and the gift of allowing us to continue sharing the story of Greenwood. It is a privilege we will never take for granted.
