Filmmaker, Bradley Beesley (Okie Noodling, The Creek Runs Red, Sweethearts of the Prison Rodeo), visited campus on Tuesday, Nov. 15th for a special screening of his cult classic documentary, Okie Noodling. Afterward, Beesley joined Co-Producer, James Payne (Far Western), and professional hand fishing guide, Nate Williams, on stage to discuss the origins and aftermath of the documentary. Dr. Justin Rawlins, TU Assistant Professor of Film Studies and Media Studies, moderated the conversation.

Writer Alison Tatlock (Better Call Saul, Stranger Things) and Writer/Professor Alex Smith (Walking Out, The Slaughter Rule) visited with TU Film Professor Jeff Van Hanken’s Screenwriting students and TU Professor Grant Jenkins’ English/Creative Writing students in the Lorton Performance Center, Friday, Nov. 11th. Tatlock and Smith discussed the writing process, shared their experiences in the film and television industries, and emphasized to students the importance of building networks among classmates and peers. Professor Jenkins moderated the discussion.

Filmmaker Sterlin Harjo conducted a Master Class with TU Film and Creative Writing students Oct. 19th, 2022. Sterlin shared details about how he conducts the writer’s room on his groundbreaking series, Reservation Dogs. He also advised students on how they can begin to develop their own community of friends and peers as they build their careers.
