On April 24 -26 the Department of Oregon, Marine Corps League, held their convention in Lincoln City hosted by George C. Leber Detachment #1481. The Department Military Order of Devil Dogs held their Pack Grand Growl on April 26. PDD (Pedigree Devil Dog) Bill Allen, Commandant of U.S.S. Oregon, was elected as the new Pack Leader. This is a fun society of the Marine Corps League. He is also the Pound Keeper of Webfoot Pound 104. Detachment Activities for 2026
On Jan 26 new member Aaaron Van Houte was sworn in.
On Feb 23 new member Charles Ovalle was sworn in.
On Feb 23 member Ben Knight, FMFPac Corpsman was presented with a 250 year Navy cover for his dedicated involvement with the detachment. He provides tootsie rolls for our parades.
On March 23 Detachment 470 presents a Certificate of Appreciation to Horses of Hope Oregon, for providing Veterans with therapy through Health, Happiness and Healing.

DETACHMENT CHRISTMAS SOCIAL DECEMBER 3 Come one, come all to the 2025 USS Oregon Detachment 470 Christmas social. This year it will be at High Rocks Restaurant and Lounge, 915 E. Arlington St., Gladstone. The date to remember is December 3rd. We start forming up at 1100. Significant other, guest, or you decide who, are welcome. See ya there. Semper Fi

At the detachment meeting on October 27 Commandant Bill Allen swore in new member Shane Winder. Bob Topping presented certificates to members who attended the reunion picnic of the Ghost Platoon at Silver Falls on September 16.

On July 19 detachment members enjoyed a BBQ picnic at Tualatin Community Park. Marine recruiters were at the park with a group of new recruits called POOLIES. The detachment fed them hot dogs and hamburgers. Attendance by detachments members, families and friends also enjoyed the meals and commoraderie. Chief cooks were Bob Topping - Hot Dogs and Terry Welter, hamburger expert.

On July 4 detachment members took part in the Hillsboro 4th of July Parade. One entry was a scooter with trailer made by Don Jackson, Det Sgt At Arms. He made it for Bob Topping, Det Service Officer, for Bob's Vietnam Ghost Platoon. The scooter was driven by Terry Welter, Det Senior Vice Commandant, with Bob's grandson as candy distributor. At the detachment meeting on July 28 Don was given an award for "Chief Gonkulater" This is a person who makes something useful out of nothing that is of value.
