π£ We're hiring! ELP is seeking a part-time Language Revitalization Mentor from North America. This role is to provide support and guidance to people in North America and around the world who are working to revitalize their languages.

Required qualifications and attributes include:
π’ Extensive knowledge and experience in language revitalization: methods, theory, and practice
π’ Commitment to community-led language revitalization, rather than top-down imposition of specific revitalization models, goals, or practices
π’ Empathy, warmth, and respect; excellent interpersonal skills
π’ Fluency or strong ability in English (our only shared working language)
π’ Good basic technical and internet skills
Preferred qualifications and attributes include:
π’ Member of a First Nations, MeΜtis, or Inuit community within the Canadian state
π’ Experience in community language planning and/or capacity-building for revitalization work
π’ Good communicative ability in one or more additional languages of wider communication (e.g. French, Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic, Punjabi, or others)
π’ Training in trauma-informed work
π’ Formal or informal training and/or education in language revitalization, linguistics, Indigenous studies, education, or related fields

Today's models talk π -- Native American Languages & Linguistics Master of Arts (NAMA): 25 Years Offering an Inclusive Pathway for Native American Scholars in Language Sciences, presented by Wilson de Lima Silva, at 1:00 - 2:00 in MU Arizona Ballroom (Room 221).
Since 1999, the Native American Languages & Linguistics Master of Arts (NAMA) program of the Department of Linguistics at the University of Arizona has been serving Native American students interested in linguistic training, language documentation, and language revitalization. In this talk, I discuss how the NAMA program contributes to addressing the challenge of broadening the participation of Native American students in language sciences, social sciences, and STEM.
