We had the sweetest time visiting to close out Love of Reading Week! 📚 Our students loved reading with their preschoolers and sharing the joy of stories together.
We finished the trip with a celebratory stop at Amy’s Donuts after our volunteer efforts. Take a peek at the last slide for a special TCS alumni “then and now”! ✨

Upper Elementary has been learning about birds of the Southwest, so they headed out to Sweetwater Wetlands Park to see what they could find in nature. 🐦🌾
They tuned into the sounds around them to spot birds and other creatures and spent time sketching their discoveries in their journals, letting the wetlands be their classroom for the morning. 💚

While exploring the construct of power and studying powerful people, one of our 5th graders discovered this Frida Kahlo quote about the gift of laughter. Students have been reflecting on how power shows up in our lives and how we can use it to help create a more just and caring world. ❤️

When your research animal is a giant squid and it’s the length of the whole school 🦑😲
Our Lower Elementary kiddos have been diving deep into their animal research, learning all about their unique creatures as they prepare an Animal Exhibit to showcase what they’ve discovered. After a visit to the Desert Museum for inspiration, students measured their animals’ real life sizes using foot long strips of paper, and today they created human friendly recipes inspired by their animals’ favorite foods like scorpion ramen and grasshopper burgers. Delish!
Science, math, writing, and imagination all rolled into one engaging, student driven project. This is what interdisciplinary learning looks like at IDEA School! ✨

As the fall semester comes to a close, our students took part in a tamale making workshop honoring a cultural staple of Tucson and the Americas and a cherished holiday tradition for some of our families. Guided by our collaborator Sergio, they learned about the history of tamales in the Southwest while preparing red chili beef and calabacita tamales to enjoy together and bring home to share.
Happy holidays from IDEA School!❤️

Today our students explored the topics of fairness, human rights, and the power of community. With guidance from our guest speaker and IDEA parent, Stacey, they dug into the issues that matter most to them and reflected on how their voices can bring about real change. We love when members of our community share their passions with our students and bring so much energy and inspiration into our classrooms! ✨
