Today is 82nd anniversary of D-Day. Yesterday, Imago Dei's rising 7th and 8th grade students traveled to the theater to watch the new film Pressure, about that fateful day in history (and they learned why the invasion did not occur on June 5th). Our students gained a new level of appreciation for the massive amount of planning that went into the campaign, but perhaps more importantly, a new level of appreciation for the horrors of war and the sacrifices made by the troops, their families and their loved ones.
Per the national WWII museum: "On June 6, 1944, Allied forces launched Operation Overlord—the codename for the massive Allied invasion of Normandy, France—with more than 150,000 troops. Ending with approximately 20,000 casualties on both sides, those who took part witnessed one of the most pivotal battles against Axis forces and the beginning of a prolonged, costly, and ultimately successful campaign to liberate northwest Europe."

Good advice from an old friend.
While we teach respect at Imago Dei, today we had to make room for some insults - of the Shakespearean variety. 'Tis just a bit of summer merriment with the lords and ladies of our 5th Grade.
