I had the privilege of spending the past two days with an amazing group of dedicated massage therapists for my Forearm Techniques course.

Friday, I welcomed 12 LMTs for Day One. Saturday was a little different—and especially meaningful. Two therapists returned to complete Day Two of the course they began with me back in March.

That class holds a tender place in my heart. I canceled the second day after my Great Dane, Anakin, passed away. I simply wasn't in a place where I could show up and teach the way my students deserved. These two were incredibly patient and understanding, and six months later, we finally got to finish what we started. ❤️

Forearm Techniques is one of my favorite courses to teach because it's about so much more than adding another technique to your toolbox. It's about career longevity—learning to provide effective, therapeutic bodywork while protecting our hands, wrists, thumbs, shoulders, and bodies.

I'm grateful for all 14 therapists who shared these two days with me, and especially for the opportunity to finally bring that March class full circle.

Sometimes a class is more than CEUs. Sometimes it's learning, connection, resilience, and finishing something life unexpectedly interrupted.

And I think there was a little bit of Anakin with me this weekend, too. 🐾❤️

Side note: I couldn't figure out how to position myself in the first group photo, so yes...that's my thumb making a guest appearance. 😂 I asked my cousin if he could replace my thumb with me, and voilà! We ended up with a hilariously creative "group" photo. Sometimes you just have to improvise! 😂

Your hands are your livelihood—but they don’t have to do all the work.

I’ve spent much of the day trying to find the right words to convey my sadness about the shooting at Venture-N that took the lives of Vincent Anthony Siqueiros and Cameron Davis Capara.

The truth is, I’m not sure there are “right” words for something like this.

I didn’t know Vincent or Cameron personally. But I know people who did—people who loved them, laughed with them, shared space with them, and are now trying to process the reality that they are gone.

And that’s the thing about tragedy in a community like Tucson. You don’t have to personally know the people whose lives were taken to feel the weight of their absence. Grief ripples outward. It reaches friends, families, coworkers, acquaintances, and eventually all of us who recognize that two people went out to live their lives and never got to come home.

Two lives were lost. Two families received news no family should ever have to receive. Countless people woke up today carrying a grief they didn’t have yesterday.

My heart is with everyone who loved Vincent Anthony Siqueiros and Cameron Davis Capara, with those who witnessed what happened, and with everyone whose life was forever changed in those few terrible moments.

May Vincent and Cameron be remembered for the lives they lived—not simply for the way those lives ended.

And may those who loved them be surrounded by kindness in the days ahead.

Christian Duran brings more than 20 years of hands-on experience to his teaching. A Tucson native, athlete, licensed massage therapist, and business owner, Chris specializes in myofunctional techniques, trigger point therapy, and lymphatic therapies.
