For an update in the retail industry, Kohl’s announced Wednesday that it is already accepting applications for seasonal store associates. This is the earliest Kohl’s has ever started hiring seasonal workers for the upcoming rush of sales for back to school and the holiday season. They are doing this in reaction to the dramatic decrease in the unemployment rate that is now at 3.8%, the lowest since 2000. With low unemployment comes stores having more jobs than there are laborers and so Kohl’s has acted on this to make sure they are finding employees for the busy season ahead.

The application is open now until September 9th, 2018 for the Next Generation Scholarship through the NRF Foundation! Our own former president, Courtney Nash, was a finalist and won the $25,000 scholarship last year where she represented U of A and our NRFSA Club. To apply you must have at least a 3.0 GPA, have had prior retail experience, and be apart of our NRFSA club. You must also be able to attend the Big Show in New York, January 11-13, 2019, to accept the scholarship. For an update in the retail industry the shoe brand, Christian Louboutin, claimed victory in a legal battle dating back to 2012 that has ruled their signature red sole shoe as a trademark for their brand. Louboutin sued the Dutch retail brand Van Haren for copying the design and now after the European Union court backed Louboutin they can now trademark the red sole because of its use of the iconic red color👠
