DHS Wants To Build A Border Wall Through Tohono O’odham Land. It’s Another Instance of The US Undermining Tribal Sovereignty. 08/06/2026

The Department of Homeland Security informed the Tohono O’odham Nation, that it was beginning construction on a border wall that would cut through its reservation. But DHS failed to ask the Tohono O’odham’s authorization to cut through its lands. Professor Keith Richotte, director of the Indigenous Peoples Law and Policy Program, weighs in:

Chris Gast, Senior Director of Student Resources and Professor of Practice at the University of Arizona Law, brings a passion for student success, leadership development, and service to his role on the NALSAP Executive Board.

Throughout his career, Chris has been a trusted advocate for law students, overseeing student life, mentoring first-generation students, teaching future legal professionals, and building programs that foster engagement and belonging. His commitment to developing leaders extends well beyond campus through his service in the legal profession and nonprofit community.

A longtime NALSAP leader and recipient of the 2023 Innovation & Impact Award, Chris continues to invest in advancing our profession through collaboration, innovation, and service.
