The BIO5 Institute at the University of Arizona is pleased to announce the 2013 Tucson Winter Institute in Plant Breeding, to be held the week of January 7th-11th, 2013. The goal of the Institute is to offer state-of-the-art instruction and training in modern tools in plant breeding, be they statistical, molecular, or computational. While plant breeding is among humankind's oldest and most importa
nt endeavors, it remains a highly dynamic field. There is a constant flux of new technologies for plant improvement, such as advances in genomics, bioinformatics, high throughput phenotyping, and new statistical approaches for selection, gene mapping, and GxE interactions. The Tucson Winter Institute in Plant Breeding through the BIO5 Institute and the iPlant initiative offers breeders state-of-the art training in these modern tools. By offering a series of modules on different topics, the Institute allows a breeder to choose courses that best fits their specific needs. The mission of the institute is to transfer current technologies to a wide audience of users, be they commercial breeders or academics interested in plant science/improvement. This year's Institute is comprised of the following four Modules. Monday - Wednesday (12:00pm) January 7th - 9th, 2013
Module 1: Introduction to Plant Quantitative Genetics (Walsh/Gore/Gutierrez)
Module 2: Introduction to Plant Genomics (Wing)
For further details on each Module, see our website. Costs to Participants:
Register before October 1, 2012:
$250/Module for Academic, $400/Module for Industry
Register after October 1, 2012 (final deadline December 7, 2012)
$275/Module for Academic, $450/Module for Industry
Participants register as "Academic" (faculty/post-doc/researcher/student) or "Industry" (company). Module Structure:
The first set of Modules in a week runs from 8:30am Monday to 12:00pm on Wednesday, the second set from 1:30pm Wednesday to 5:00pm Friday. Each module thus consists of ten 90 minute lectures/computer workshops. The Daily Schedule is:
