I had the pleasure of being in Grace Javier's Honors Biology class for freshmen today. Students worked on a lab to figure out the resaturant a fictional character had been food poisoned at. Grace had planned for and prepared the lab to be a groupworthy task so students had roles, followed norms and identified the multiple smartnesses they brough to the task. As a result of Grace's pre-planning of the groupworthy task, students were set up for success and were 100% engaged. Grace was left to feel lonley off to the side of the room as students were self-sufficient. Great job Grace!

We thoroughly enjoyed the Tucson Values Teachers' Stand Up For Teachers Event tonight at the University of Arizona. Thank you Andy Heinemann and Terresa Tauzin for supporting teachers and Teachers in Industry. Congratulations to all of the teachers who were recognized tonight!

I was excited to be in Teacher in Industry Ron Roseman's AP Computer class this morning. Students were using their knowledge of design principles to locate partners this morning. Most of the students plan to study computer science after graduation.

Check out Mabel Rivera's 3rd graders engaged in a community service and social justice unit on food scarcity and measurement! She used Raytheon's SCRUM model for putting students in small "story" groups. Each story group contributed an important project to the overall whole group goal of creating food bags for the community food bank. This is an excellent example of how TiI teachers use their summer work experiences to enhance their instructional practices and deepen students' learning.
