With a very heavy heart and tears in my eyes, I am posting the message from the wife of a Blue Devil Class of 1977:
Barb is an alumni from the Class of 1978.

RIP my dear friend. You will be missed terribly.

Sunnyside High School and it's students really are doing amazing things.

Today we meet Senior Yaritza Durazo. Yaritza has been awarded with the prestigious Flinn Scholarship.

Over 1,000 students from Arizona applied for the scholarship and Yaritza was selected as one of the recipients. The benefits of the Flinn Scholarship include full cost of tuition with housing and meals included. That is a value of more than $130,000. Yaritza will also earn membership into the honors college as well as additional funding for seminars, workshops, and a study abroad experience.

WOW!!!

This is an amazing achievement and we are so proud of Yaritza!

Yaritza will be attending the University of Arizona next fall!

Go Yaritza! Go Blue Devils

Sunnyside Class of 1977 has lost another Blue Devil. Fermin Cota lost his battle from COVID 19 on Sunday, November 28, 2021. Fermin was a good friend from the time I started at Apollo and through our time at Sunnyside. His daughters have a Go Fund Me page set up to help with the cost of his funeral. RIP Fermin until we meet again.

It is with a sad and broken heart that I let everyone know that another Blue Devil has earned her wings. Maria Lizarraga Quijada, Sunnyside Class of 1980, passed away on Wednesday evening. María worked at Los Ranchitos for more than 20 years until its closure and then transferred to Elvira Elementary until her retirement. She leaves behind her husband, Roy Quijada, also a Blue Devil, as well as two daughters and a son (all Sunnyside District graduates) plus a few grandkids. She is also survived by her mom and two sisters. Her younger sister, Mirna Lizarraga, is a teacher at Ocotillo. RIP María, and let the perpetual light shine upon you. ❤️🕊️🔥❤️

It saddens me to say goodbye to another Blue Devil. John Garza passed away just 5 days after his 32nd birthday. He was a Wrestling State Champ from Sunnyside's Class of 2008 and an educator at Pistor Middle School. John will be missed by many people. RIP John. 🙏🏼❤️🕊️❤️🙏🏻
