From Professor Chad Shoopman, Director of Athletic Bands
A statement from director Chad Shoopman regarding our 2020 Annual Band Day
A message from the Arizona Band and Orchestra Directors Association (7/13/2020)...
"Dear ABODA Constituency,
The Arizona Band and Orchestra Directors Association (ABODA) has made the difficult decision to cancel all in-person fall 2020 ABODA events, including marching band invitationals, State Semifinals, the Arizona State Marching Band Championship™, Fall Orchestra Festival, and Fall Band Festival. This decision was made to promote the safety of our Arizona students, directors, staff, and families.
The decision to suspend the fall events was not made lightly. As the public health situation continues to change and evolve, please feel free to communicate with us and share your ideas on how we can support you and your students. We will be evaluating the format of our Spring events in the coming months. The deadlines for Spring event registrations will be delayed until further notice.
Sincerely,
ABODA Board of Directors"
A Statement from the Arizona Marching Band Association (7/13/2020)...
"The AzMBA Board has been carefully monitoring the pandemic over the past few months, and in particular how it is affecting decisions around athletics, school districts and ultimately the marching activity within our community.
As our mission statement states, AzMBA exists to provide a positive and educational experience for marching band students and staff members. While it is not our right to dictate what programs ARE and AREN'T allowed to do on your campus, the Board feels strongly that we have a responsibility to provide guidance and leadership when it comes to the activity.
After waiting several months to allow for the situation in Arizona to improve, we have determined that at this time schools cannot safely host any of our regularly scheduled events this season. Please understand that while this may seem like a slow decision, this was in reality a patient and hopeful mentality for the students, families, and programs of our state."

For any graduates interested...
As we've stated before, nothing is more important to the Pride of Arizona than the safety and well-being of our members. For this reason, we have adjusted our plans for auditions and drum camp. Our audition process will take 3 rounds over the course of a week. First, instead of the usual in person audition, we will be taking video auditions due by Monday, August 17th. From there, the drumline staff will look through all the videos on Tuesday August 18th where we will place all auditionees on the instrument we think they will have the best chance of making the drumline and do a virtual audition via the Zoom platform on Wednesday and Thursday, August 19th and 20th. Here we will see how well prospective members of the drumline adapt to new information and make a decision moving into the last day of auditions, Friday the 21st. Here, we will have our final round of auditions where we will be in person on actual drums, where we will make the final cuts in the audition process.
We are committed to being as safe as possible while meeting in person, so we will stay outdoors, maintain at least 6 feet of distance, and require masks of everyone involved. If safety dictates that we cannot hold this last day of auditions in person, then we will adjust accordingly in order to ensure the safety of all prospective members and the instructional staff.
In addition to the majority of our audition process being held digitally, the upcoming camp (originally scheduled to be held on July 24th and 25th) will be held online through Zoom. Expect more information on this in the coming weeks.
If you are planning on auditioning, you must fill out the student profile form here:
https://prideofarizona.org/join/info/
If this form has not be completed, you will not have a chance to audition for the 2020 Pride of Arizona Drumline. Once you have filled out the form, you can expect specific instructions in the coming weeks regarding video submissions and more details on the audition schedule.
The entire Pride of Arizona staff is working diligently to make sure that our 2020 season is going to provide the best possible experience for all of our members. We don't have all the answers yet as to what our fall season is going to look like, but the ideas we have in mind are all very exciting. In some way, shape, or form, the 2020 Pride of Arizona is happening, and you are not going to want to miss it.
