The Rio Yaqui delta is gone. The process began most likely in the early 1930s. By the 1980s major changes along the coast were underway. Today, the Pacific Ocean traverses inland over the empty riverbed for approximately 40 km.

DDTs kill bugs and can kill people. The DDT alternative - chlorpyrifos includes Lorsban 48 EM. It is classified as an organophosphate insecticide. It too can have the same harmful impact on human health. I hypothesize that Yaqui infant mortality is tied to the spraying seasons and the outcome for Yaqui infants varies depending on (a) prenatal uptake (i.e., pesticide drift), and (b) early childhood exposure on account of the persistent nature of the insecticides (breast milk, groundwater, soil, and air). In sum, you cannot wash them off or clean them away.
